K-Fashion's Technicolor Dreams at Paris Fashion Week 2019

The Palais Brongniart, Paris’ historic stock exchange, served as the backdrop for the K-fashion runway show held during the Spring/Summer 2019 edition of Paris Fashion Week.  The catwalk showcased South Korean fashion designers aspiring to follow in the successful footsteps of K-pop artists by shaking things up in the international fashion week circuit with their technicolor creations.  The South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy and the Korea Research Institute launched the K-fashion project  to support young designers.

Partnership with TRANOI Boosts Visibility

For the latest Paris edition, K-fashion teamed up with TRANOÏ — a platform that gathers and curates avant-garde and emerging international talent and connects them with the most influential players in the fashion industry.  It was a fitting partnership considering K-fashion’s goal of introducing its designers to lucrative markets and contributing to the diffusion of Korean culture.  The collections promoted by K-fashion also feature Korean fabrics and technology to tie into the project’s “Made in Korea, Made for You” slogan.

Two designers rose to the top of the latest competition among 50 Korean designers for the highly sought after opportunity to showcase their creations in the Paris runway show.  YoungHee Park, who is known at the “Queen of Printing” and Central Saint Martins graduate Chungchung Lee were the two talented finalists chosen for the K-fashion show.

Park presented the GREEDILOUS collection, which packed a powerful graphic punch.  According to Park, Greedilicious combines the words Greedy and Fabulous to represent “A Goddess Of Beauty”.

The use of bold and colorful graphics imbued the classically tailored pieces with a rocker chic asthetic.  Detailed trim work and feminine ruffles balanced the edgy printed fabrics. According to Park, the collection was inspired by the British singer and songwriter Amy Winehouse.

Chungchung Lee, the designer behind LIE, presented a Spring/Summer 2019 collection inspired by the pioneering female aviator Amelia Earhart. Lee’s collection channeled the bold spirit of Earhart, which he hopes will inspire a new generation of women to pursue unconventional dreams.

Lee’s updated retro designs with pops of color and an experimental use of bold patterns and soft feminine prints. There was plenty of inspiration for anyone looking for their spring getaway wardrobe!
