Fashion Days - Luxembourg Grand Duchy

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is famous for investment banking and its high concentration of castles, but did you know that it also has a burgeoning fashion scene that is attracting young designers from around Europe?  On November 26, the second edition of Fashion Days – Luxembourg Grand Duchy set the stage for 17 designers to present their clothing, shoe, and accessory lines.

It was a great time to visit the Grand Duchy.  The entire city center is a winter wonderland! The show’s venue, the sleek European Convention Center located in the prestigious Kirchberg district, was decked out with displays of pieces from the designer collections.  The evening gown was from one of my favorite collections, aptly themed Gold Me by the budding Luxembourg-based designer Egle Ozyte.

Ozyte hails from Lithuania and the collection is aimed to evoke “the mystery and wonderment of the forest, the glamour of gold and a feminine elegance in its design.”

Fashion Days – Luxembourg Grand Duchy

The Fashion Days program included two catwalk sessions and the models included a Miss Luxembourg.  The first session was intended to promote young talent and included a Start-Up Award for the best new designer (those with less than 3 years experience).

The second segment showcased the collections of 6 professional designers, including a collection by the label Inga Wellbeing designed to provide comfort and dignity to patients.

Start-up Designer Award

The award was sponsored by the Belgian fashion chain JBC.  Belgian designer Marjorie Hinque won the judges over with her contemporary fall/winter collection. The prize includes financial support from JBC to produce a collection that will be sold in the chain’s 165 stores.

Among the start-up designers, I appreciated the Africa Meets Europe themed collection the best.  I am a bit partial to African fusion fashion anyway, but its inspirational to know that it is never too late to pursue artistic endeavors. Emerging designer Osvalinda Moreira, is an Optician by training but has spent the last few years pursuing her passion for couture.

The youngest designer Igor Dieryck (who is only 17!)  presented a collection entitled Night Lights that grabbed the audience’s attention.

Refined Accessories

L’Atelier Van Tesch and Duchess Boulevard provided the shoes and sparkle to accompany the clothing collections.

The look presented for the L’Atelier Van Tesch jewelry collection would be perfect for any holiday party.  Loved the floaty black skirts!
